Bhagwant Mann has claimed a major success in its anti-smuggling operations after Counter Intelligence units in Amritsar dismantled an alleged drug and illegal arms trafficking network operating in the state.
According to Director General of Police Punjab Gaurav Yadav, two accused individuals were arrested during the operation. Police also recovered 5.5 kilograms of heroin, four pistols, and 10 live rounds of ammunition.
Bhagwant Mann: Cross-Border Links Suspected
Preliminary investigations suggest that the arrested individuals were allegedly in contact with a cross-border smuggler and had received consignments of arms and ammunition intended for further distribution within Punjab.
Officials stated that the case points toward the continued use of cross-border smuggling channels for trafficking narcotics and illegal weapons into the state.
Investigation Underway
A case has been registered at the State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) police station in Amritsar. Authorities said further investigation is ongoing to establish both forward and backward linkages connected to the network and identify additional associates involved in the alleged smuggling operation.
Police teams are also examining the source of the recovered weapons and narcotics, along with possible supply routes and intended recipients.
Zero-Tolerance Policy Against Organized Crime
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has repeatedly emphasized strict action against drug trafficking and organized crime in the state. Punjab Police stated that it remains committed to a zero-tolerance policy against narcotics, illegal arms smuggling, and criminal networks.
Authorities added that anti-drug and anti-smuggling operations are being intensified across Punjab to strengthen law enforcement and public safety.
