Punjab Health Minister Dr Balbir Singh has shared key details of the Chief Minister Health Insurance Scheme, describing it as a first-of-its-kind initiative that will cover 100% of the state’s population. The scheme, launched under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, aims to ensure universal access to quality healthcare for every resident of Punjab.
Bhagwant Mann Government Expands Health Coverage
Addressing the public, the health minister said that there will be no eligibility conditions for enrolment under the scheme. Any resident of Punjab possessing a valid Aadhaar card and voter ID will be automatically eligible to avail the benefits. The move is expected to significantly reduce out-of-pocket medical expenses for families across the state.
Punjab to Launch Statewide CM Health Insurance Scheme
To ensure smooth and widespread registration, the government will organise over 9,000 camps through Common Service Centres (CSCs) in villages and urban localities. These camps will facilitate the issuance of health insurance cards, making the process accessible even in remote areas.
Dr Balbir Singh emphasised that the scheme reflects the Mann government’s commitment to inclusive and people-centric healthcare reforms, ensuring that no citizen is denied medical treatment due to financial constraints. The initiative is also expected to strengthen public trust in government healthcare systems and reduce dependence on costly private treatment.
The Aam Aadmi Party-led Punjab government has consistently highlighted health and education as its core priorities. With the rollout of this comprehensive health insurance scheme, Punjab is set to become one of the few states in the country to offer universal health coverage.
Further details regarding coverage limits, empanelled hospitals and implementation timelines are expected to be announced soon.
