In response to the escalating conflict between India and Pakistan, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann chaired a high-level emergency cabinet meeting in Chandigarh to assess the state’s readiness along the international border and ensure public safety.

CM Mann emphasized the state’s preparedness to counter any security threat from across the border

Addressing the media after the crucial cabinet session, CM Mann emphasized the state’s preparedness to counter any security threat from across the border. He said the Punjab government stands firm against Pakistan’s repeated attempts to destabilize peace and will counter every move with full force.

War and terrorism-affected civilians in Punjab will now be entitled to free medical treatment

In a series of significant decisions, the cabinet approved an extension of the state’s much-praised Farishte Scheme. Under the updated provisions, war and terrorism-affected civilians in Punjab will now be entitled to free medical treatment, similar to accident victims already covered under the scheme. “We will not let our people suffer—whether it’s war or terror, Punjab will stand beside its citizens,” Mann said.

Taking a strategic step toward bolstering border security, the state has decided to deploy nine anti-drone systems across key districts—from Pathankot to Abohar—to thwart any cross-border smuggling or drone-based infiltration attempts, which have seen a sharp rise in recent months.

CM Mann reiterated that the Punjab government is "tayar-bar-tayaar" (always prepared) to defeat Pakistan’s nefarious actions at every level. He also highlighted that an intensified crackdown is underway against drug traffickers who are known to fund terrorism, declaring it a “clean-up operation to break the terror-narcotics nexus.”

The meeting comes amidst heightened national alert and military preparedness following a deadly terrorist attack in Jammu & Kashmir’s Pahalgam on April 22, allegedly carried out by Pakistan-backed groups. Punjab, being a frontline state, is taking no chances.
