The Punjab government, under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, is continuing its efforts to support senior citizens through the ‘Chief Minister Teerth Yatra Scheme’, aimed at enabling free pilgrimage for the elderly.
According to information shared by Aam Aadmi Party Punjab, around 1,100 elderly devotees are being facilitated daily to visit various religious sites under the scheme.
Bhagwant Mann: Large-scale logistical support
To ensure smooth travel, the government has deployed approximately 95 AC buses, along with the support of nearly 900 volunteers, who assist senior citizens throughout the यात्रा. The initiative focuses on providing a comfortable and respectful travel experience for elderly participants.
Focus on dignity and inclusion
The scheme is being positioned as a step towards honoring senior citizens, with the Chief Minister emphasizing dignity and care for the elderly population. It enables those who may not have the financial means or physical support to undertake such journeys independently.
Wide public outreach
The programme has seen growing participation, with beneficiaries from different parts of Punjab availing the facility. The initiative covers visits to prominent religious destinations, helping strengthen social and cultural connections among citizens.
Governance and welfare approach
The move reflects the state government’s broader welfare-oriented approach, focusing on inclusive schemes that directly impact people’s lives, particularly vulnerable sections like senior citizens.
With consistent daily operations and structured support, the ‘Chief Minister Teerth Yatra Scheme’ under Bhagwant Mann continues to emerge as a significant social welfare initiative in Punjab.
