Bhagwant Mann intensifies anti-drug drive; 147 smugglers arrested on Day 429

Authorities have been conducting regular search operations to curb the illegal drug trade.

Continuing its anti-drug campaign ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’, Punjab Police has arrested 147 drug smugglers in a statewide crackdown on Day 429 of the operation.

According to official information, the police recovered 1.5 kg of heroin, 757 intoxicant tablets/capsules, and ₹4,050 in drug money during multiple raids conducted across Punjab.

The action was carried out at several locations, reflecting a sustained effort to dismantle drug supply networks. Authorities have been conducting regular search operations to curb the illegal drug trade.

Rehabilitation efforts alongside enforcement

In addition to arrests, 26 individuals were persuaded to undergo de-addiction and rehabilitation treatment, highlighting a dual approach of strict enforcement and social reform.

Cumulative crackdown figures

Officials stated that since the launch of the campaign, a total of 62,480 drug smugglers have been arrested over 429 days, indicating the scale of the ongoing drive.

Targeting supply chains

The crackdown is aimed not only at street-level peddlers but also at breaking larger supply chains and networks, including those operating across districts and state borders. Coordination with specialized units like Anti-Narcotics Task Force Punjab has strengthened intelligence-based operations.

Authorities are also focusing on public awareness and community participation, encouraging citizens to report drug-related activities and support efforts to create a drug-free environment.
