Bhagwant Mann Launches Decade’s Toughest Drug War: Punjab Police Make Fresh Arrests as ‘Yudh Nashian Virodh’ Hits Day 374

The anti-drug campaign "Yudh Nashian Virodh" in Punjab has been going on for 374 days. It is one of the toughest crackdowns on drugs in the state's recent history. Over 51,000 people have been arrested, thousands of FIRs have been filed, and large amounts of heroin have been seized as a result of the initiative led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

It is one year since March 2025, Bhagwant Mann started the aggressive anti-drug campaign “Yudh Nashian Virodh” (War Against Drugs). He called it one of the most determined efforts to get rid of drugs in Punjab. The goal of the campaign was to catch drug traffickers, break up drug trafficking networks, and deal with the long-standing drug problem that has affected many districts in the state.

Officials have made it clear that the campaign is not just a short-term effort, but a long-term enforcement plan that includes daily police work, intelligence-led raids, financial investigations, and programs to raise public awareness.

Progress of the Campaign till Date

The campaign reached day 374 by early March 2026, which meant that the Punjab Police were still working in multiple districts. During this time, the state made more than 51,000 arrests of people who were thought to be drug traffickers and filed more than 36,000 FIRs for drug-related crimes.

Authorities confirmed that they had found about 2,200 kilograms of heroin, as well as other illegal drugs like opium, poppy husk, and synthetic drugs. Officials say that these seizures are part of one of the biggest efforts in recent history to stop drug trafficking in the state.

Recent Steps of Punjab Mann’s Government

On the 374th day of the campaign, police teams worked together to raid several places. The enforcement effort has stayed the same, with officials saying that there were an average of about 141 arrests every day.

The Bhagwant Mann government has cracked down, and properties and financial assets worth hundreds of crores of rupees that are said to be linked to drug traffickers. Also, the Community initiatives of Government-backed awareness campaigns and rehabilitation programs aimed at reducing drug addiction and supporting recovery.
