Desi Girl Priyanka Chopra recently opened up about why she and her husband Nick Jonas prefer to keep their daughter Malti Marie Chopra Jonas away from the public spotlight. The actor explained that while she understands the curiosity people have about celebrity children, her biggest priority is protecting her daughter’s safety and privacy.
PeeCee spoke about this during a conversation on the popular podcast Not Skinny But Not Fat hosted by Amanda Hirsch. During the discussion, the actor shared that raising a child in the public eye can be challenging, and she wants Malti to grow up with as much normalcy as possible.
Priyanka Chopra On Why Malti Marie’s Privacy Matters
Priyanka Chopra explained that she and Nick want their daughter to enjoy a childhood that is as normal as possible. According to the actor, since she chose to live a public life as a celebrity, she does not want her child to feel pressured to do the same.
She said she would prefer Malti to decide for herself in the future whether she wants to live in the public eye. For now, the couple is focused on giving her the freedom to grow up without constant attention.
Priyanka also revealed a shocking incident that made the family even more careful about their daughter’s safety. She shared that a stranger once followed Malti home from school while recording her. The experience deeply concerned the family and made them more protective about their child’s privacy.

Because of such situations, the couple now relies on security personnel when they are out in public. Priyanka explained that the security arrangements are mainly meant to prevent people from filming their daughter without consent.
Talking about the situation, she said, “When we have security out and about, it’s just … to not be recorded without consent because a lot of that happens… I’ve always been of the opinion that I kind of chose a public life… (When) it comes to children, that’s … terrain we are all learning in the last like 10 to 20 years what that is gonna be like in the next 10 years, 15 years for them. So I think a little bit of grace is required for everyone, but also certain awareness of safety and what that means.”
Priyanka added that she hopes her daughter grows up feeling safe while also learning to trust people around her. At the same time, she wants Malti to have the freedom to choose how much of her life she shares with the public in the future.
Priyanka and Nick married in 2018 in a widely celebrated wedding that blended Indian and Western traditions. In 2022, the couple welcomed their daughter, Malti Marie Chopra Jonas, through surrogacy.
Priyanka Chopra’s Upcoming Projects
On the professional front, Priyanka continues to work on several international and Indian projects. She was last seen in the pirate action-adventure film The Bluff.
The actor will soon make her return to Indian cinema with the highly anticipated film Varanasi. The big-budget action-adventure is directed by SS Rajamouli and stars Mahesh Babu and Prithviraj Sukumaran alongside Priyanka. Reports suggest the film is being made on a massive budget of around Rs 1300 crore, making it one of the most expensive Indian films ever produced.
The film is currently in production and is expected to be released in theatres in April 2027. Apart from that, Priyanka will also appear in the second season of the spy thriller series Citadel, which has gained a global audience.
