Bhagwant Mann’s War on Drugs Intensifies, Punjab Police Recover Over 30 Kg Heroin, Arrest Six Drug Smuggling Operatives

Major Seizure of Drugs in Amritsar

The raid, which led to such a major haul, was conducted by the Amritsar Commissionerate Police. During the process, they managed to seize 30.045 kg of heroin while also arresting six accused believed to be working for a drug-smuggling cartel. This bust is regarded as one of the major seizures in recent months. It reflects the growing efforts being made to stop the illegal trade of drugs.

Dubai Link Comes Under Scanner

According to preliminary investigations, the arrested suspects were allegedly connected to a Dubai-based smuggler who coordinated the delivery of heroin consignments from across the border. Investigators believe the accused were responsible for collecting the consignments from designated locations and distributing them to various recipients across Punjab.The international connection has added a new dimension to the case, prompting authorities to expand the scope of the investigation.

FIR Registered Under NDPS Act

Punjab Police has registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Chheharta Police Station in Amritsar. Officials have launched a detailed investigation to uncover the full extent of the network and identify additional individuals involved in the operation.

Investigation Focuses on Financial Trail

Authorities are now working to establish both backward and forward linkages of the smuggling network. Investigators are examining financial transactions linked to the accused and are also probing possible hawala connections that may have been used to facilitate the movement of funds. The police aim to identify the masterminds behind the operation and dismantle the entire network rather than limiting action to ground-level operatives.

The latest seizure comes amid the Punjab government’s intensified efforts to combat drug trafficking and organized crime. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has repeatedly emphasized the need for strict action against drug smugglers and has directed law enforcement agencies to take decisive measures against criminal networks operating in the state. The government maintains that eliminating the drug menace remains one of its top priorities and that sustained action will continue against those involved in narcotics trafficking.
