Despite a reduction in GST rates by the central government, Punjab’s revenue collection from Goods and Services Tax (GST) stood at ₹17,860.09 crore, reflecting improved compliance, better monitoring, and streamlined tax administration. Officials say this growth indicates stronger economic activity and enhanced revenue efficiency across sectors.

The excise department has also played a crucial role in boosting the state’s finances. Punjab earned ₹7,401 crore from excise revenue, registering an 8.64% increase over last year’s collection of ₹6,762 crore. The government attributes this rise to transparent policies, strict enforcement against illegal liquor trade, and improved excise management.
The Mann government has consistently maintained that financial stability is key to public welfare, enabling increased spending on health, education, infrastructure, and social security schemes without burdening citizens with additional taxes. Officials highlighted that higher revenue mobilisation strengthens Punjab’s capacity to invest in development projects while keeping fiscal deficits under control.
AAP leaders said the improved figures reflect the government’s commitment to honest governance, efficient resource utilisation, and people-centric economic policies. They added that Punjab is steadily moving towards a more sustainable and self-reliant financial model, even amid challenging national economic conditions.
