CM Bhagwant Mann Lauds Punjab Police as Amritsar Rural Busts Cross-Border Narco-Smuggling Module

In a major breakthrough against drug trafficking, Punjab Police, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, has dismantled a cross-border narco-smuggling module in an intelligence-led operation carried out by Amritsar Rural Police.

The operation led to the arrest of Shankar Singh, a resident of Guru Ki Wadali, Amritsar. Police recovered 6.286 kg of heroin along with ₹4 lakh in drug money from the accused.

Links with Foreign-Based Smugglers

According to preliminary investigations, Shankar Singh was in direct contact with foreign-based smugglers. Officials confirmed that the accused was part of a larger network with both backward and forward linkages. A case has been registered at Police Station Lopoke, Amritsar Rural, and further investigations are underway to trace the full extent of the nexus.

CM Bhagwant Mann’s Stand

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has consistently stressed that his government’s top priority is to eradicate drugs from the state and protect the youth from this menace. He lauded the Punjab Police for their swift action, urging them to continue their intelligence-led approach to completely wipe out drug syndicates.

Over the past months, Punjab Police has launched multiple operations leading to the seizure of hundreds of kilograms of narcotics and arrest of key traffickers. The government has also directed strict action against corrupt officials found shielding drug peddlers. Simultaneously, de-addiction and rehabilitation programs are being expanded to ensure support for youth affected by drug abuse.

This operation in Amritsar Rural reflects the dual approach of enforcement and rehabilitation that CM Mann has highlighted as essential to free Punjab from the grip of drugs.
