Security agencies are fully prepared to break the drug supply chain in Punjab and rein on the smugglers. Punjab Police has arrested 9917 drug peddlers within the last six months and has also recovered 418.44 kg of heroin. All these arrests and action have been taken from 5 July 2022 till now. Among the 9917 drug smugglers arrested, 1447 big smugglers are also included. Police has registered a total of 7533 FIRs, out of which 852 are of business level.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Headquarters Sukhchain Singh Gill said that police teams have seized 418.44 kg of heroin by conducting blockade and search operations in drug-affected areas across the state and blocking sensitive routes across the state. In addition, 147.5 kg of heroin was recovered by Punjab Police teams from ports in Gujarat and Maharashtra, taking the total effective recovery of heroin to 565.94 kg in just six months.
Drug money worth Rs 7.72 crore seized
The IGP said that apart from seizing a huge consignment of heroin, the police have also seized 407 kg opium, 407 kg ganja, 233 quintal husk and 33.88 lakh intoxicant pills/capsules/vacuums/vials from across the state. The police have also recovered drug money worth Rs 7.72 crore from the possession of the arrested drug peddlers in these six months.
Sukhchain Singh Gill informed that in the last one week, the police have registered 247 FIRs and arrested 311 drug-traffickers/suppliers and seized 11.76 kg of heroin, 9.87 kg of opium, 6.37 quintals of bhukki, and 32,118 tablets/capsules of pharma opioids. Apart from vaccines/vials, drug money worth Rs 2.88 lakh has been recovered.
