Bhagwant Mann: In a major breakthrough, the Jalandhar Commissionerate Police apprehended four members of a gang linked to foreign-based handlers involved in extortion and firing incidents, recovering three sophisticated pistols and live cartridges from their possession.
Acting on a tip-off received on Friday that some criminals were planning to execute a major crime in the city, a police team laid a trap and successfully apprehended the four gang members along with weapons.
Foreign Handlers Running the Show From Abroad
Preliminary investigation and interrogation revealed that the accused were operating under the guidance of their foreign-based handlers, who used internet calls and social media applications to assign targets, provide instructions, and arrange funding for the gang.

The BNS Fashions Attack: The Trigger Behind the Crackdown
The arrests are directly linked to a brazen daylight attack that had sent shockwaves through Jalandhar’s business community. Last week, the gang had fired at the BNS Fashions showroom at Santokhpura and had been demanding ₹50 lakh from its owner, Lakshay Verma. An FIR has been registered at the Bhargo Camp police station in Jalandhar.
A Pattern of Terror Against Traders
Bhagwant Mann: According to police officials, the arrested accused were involved in planning and executing several firing incidents in Jalandhar and Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, with the main objective of creating fear among traders and influential individuals to extort money. The gang had also conducted reconnaissance of multiple locations in recent days to execute further violent crimes.
