Power consumption has increased in the month of April due to rising temperature

The power consumption has increased in the month of April due to rising temperature, and to meet the demand, Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) has made available 43% more power to the consumers in April 2022.

Power Minister Harbhajan Singh on Sunday said that PSPCL has provided 16,085 lakh units (LU) of electricity from April 1 to April 9, which is 43% higher than the 11,206 LU electricity available during the same period last year.

8,758 MW made available in April 2022 as against 6,308 MW in April 2021. PSPCL has supplied 32 per cent more power within the state besides four times the power supplied for banking outside the state during this period. The corporation has supplied maximum banking power of 1,044 MW in April, up 791 MW from 253 MW in the same period last year.

PSPCL has procured 655 LUs of power from Power Exchange till 9th ​​April as against 186 LUs procured in 2021. This year, it met a peak demand of 7,714 MW on April 8, which is 1,659 MW higher than the peak demand. 6,055 MW was recorded on 9 last year.

The minister reiterated the government’s commitment to provide eight hours of uninterrupted supply to all categories of consumers including agricultural pump sets and industry in the state during the paddy season.

PSPCL is focusing on maximum banking with other states. Power is being supplied for banking since November last year and is being continued till April so that 2,300 MW of power can be achieved during the paddy season. He also said that during a meeting with the Union Power Minister, the central government has categorically agreed to supply additional 20 lakh tonnes of coal to the state’s thermal plants and additional 30 lakh tonnes to the state’s IPPs and allocation of additional power to Punjab. assured of. PSPCL-owned Pachwara coal mine in Jharkhand has been non-operational since 2015. To restart the mine, dewatering has been going on since last week and it will resume operations by the end of June. He said that this would ensure adequate availability of coal for the paddy season.
