Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann met with the players of India’s 1975 Hockey World Cup-winning team and their families at his official residence in Chandigarh to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of the country’s historic victory. The 1975 World Cup, held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, remains India’s only Hockey World Cup triumph.
During the event, CM Mann congratulated the players on the 50th anniversary of their remarkable achievement. He reminisced about the glorious moments of the tournament with the team members and acknowledged their contribution to Indian hockey. He also assured them of the Punjab government’s full support in every possible way.

Reiterating his government's dedication to promoting hockey and other sports in the state, CM Mann emphasized the importance of recognizing and supporting former and current athletes. He expressed pride in the 1975 team and assured that the Punjab government would continue to encourage young talent in hockey.
“The entire Punjab is proud of you,” he stated while extending his warm regards to the hockey legends. His government has been actively working on improving sports infrastructure and providing assistance to athletes, ensuring that Punjab continues to produce world-class players.

The 1975 Hockey World Cup remains a landmark moment in Indian sports history. Under the captaincy of Ajit Pal Singh, India defeated Pakistan 2-1 in the final to clinch the prestigious title.
