Bhagwant Mann : Punjab electricity consumers are set to receive major relief as the state prepares to roll out a completely paperless electricity connection system from January 2026. For the first time in Punjab, the entire process of applying for a new power connection will be digital, eliminating the need for consumers to visit electricity offices repeatedly.

According to officials, the new paperless system will allow consumers to apply for electricity connections from the comfort of their homes. Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) and its IT wing are working rapidly to implement the digital framework, aiming to make power services faster, transparent, and citizen-friendly. The department believes this move will save both time and money for consumers while significantly reducing procedural delays.

Currently, PSPCL operates on an SAP system introduced in 2015, which has largely remained limited to urban areas. With the introduction of the new billing and connection management system, digital services will be extended to rural areas as well, ensuring uniform access across Punjab. This marks a major step toward digital inclusion in the state’s power sector.

Those unable to apply online can visit Suvidha Centres

Once the system is implemented, all work at Suvidha Centres will become completely paperless. Consumers who are comfortable with online platforms can submit their applications digitally from home. Those unable to apply online can visit Suvidha Centres, where staff will upload their applications directly into the system, ensuring no one is left out.

Another major improvement is the simplification of documentation. Applicants will now need only three documents—Aadhaar card, property registry, and four photographs—to apply for a new electricity connection. Officials say replacing the older SAP and CRM-based processes with a unified billing system will reduce complexity, curb corruption, and improve service delivery.

The paperless electricity connection system is expected to transform consumer experience in Punjab by making power services more efficient, transparent, and accessible to both urban and rural residents.
