In the wake of the suspected liquor tragedy in Gujran village, Sangrur district, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann swiftly took charge, ensuring that legal measures were promptly implemented. He announced the registration of a murder case under Section 302 of the IPC against 10 accused individuals, showcasing a commitment to justice and accountability.

Ministerial Support and Community Engagement

In a demonstration of solidarity and empathy, Excise Minister Harpal Singh Cheema personally visited Sangrur to extend support to the affected families. His presence underscored the government’s commitment to stand by the community during times of adversity. Minister Cheema’s assurance of stringent consequences for those involved in the distribution of spurious liquor further reaffirmed the administration’s dedication to upholding public welfare.

Effective Investigation and Medical Response

The formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by Additional Director General of Police Gurinder Singh Dhillon, underscored the government’s proactive stance in ensuring a thorough investigation into the incident. Additionally, the invocation of Section 61-A of the Excise Act in FIRs across various police stations demonstrated a decisive approach towards addressing the root cause.

Moreover, with eight suspects already arrested and ongoing medical care provided to the affected individuals, including those receiving treatment at Rajindra Hospital in Patiala and the Civil Hospital in Sangrur, the government’s coordinated response highlighted its commitment to safeguarding public health and well-being.
