The Punjab Assembly created history by holding its special session for the first time outside the capital Chandigarh, in the holy city of Sri Anandpur Sahib. This historic decision was made to honor the 350th martyrdom day of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, creating a spiritual and cultural atmosphere across the state.
Anandpur Sahib holds great importance in Sikh history. This is the sacred land where the tenth Guru, Guru Gobind Singh Ji, established the Khalsa Panth (Sikh community), and where many important events in Sikh religion took place. Holding the Assembly session at this holy place was not just an administrative step, but a way to show respect for Punjab’s rich heritage and spiritual traditions.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann presented an important proposal to declare Anandpur Sahib, Talwandi Sabo, and the Golden Temple area as “Holy Cities.” The Assembly passed this proposal unanimously, which is a commendable step toward protecting Punjab’s religious and cultural heritage.
Along with this special session, many events were organized across the state. Grand religious processions (Nagar Kirtan) were held with thousands of devotees participating. Seminars on religious and social topics were organized where scholars spoke about Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s sacrifice and his life philosophy. Blood donation camps were set up and tree plantation programs were held to promote environmental protection.
Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji made the ultimate sacrifice for humanity, religious freedom, and social justice. He gave his life to protect Kashmiri Pandits, which is a unique example of religious tolerance and brotherhood in human history. Through this special session, efforts were made to introduce the new generation to his story of sacrifice.
