Punjab government reiterates firm stand on anti-sacrilege law: CM Bhagwant Mann

Officials said the legislation has been framed with the objective of protecting religious sentiments while maintaining law

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has reiterated the state government’s commitment to protecting the sanctity and respect of Guru Granth Sahib and all religious scriptures through the recently enacted anti-sacrilege legislation.

According to the Chief Minister, the Jaagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Bill 2026 was introduced to ensure strict punishment for individuals attempting to hurt religious sentiments or disturb communal harmony in the state.

Bhagwant Mann: Zero tolerance against sacrilege attempts

Bhagwant Mann stated that the Punjab government has adopted a zero-tolerance approach toward incidents of sacrilege and emphasized that the law is aimed at preserving peace, harmony, and mutual respect among all faiths.

Support from Sikh community

The Chief Minister also claimed that the anti-sacrilege law has received strong support from members of the Sikh sangat and communities across different parts of the world.
