In a meticulously planned operation based on secret intelligence, the Amritsar Rural Police successfully dismantled a major drug trafficking network linked to UK-based handler Dharma Sandhu. The operation led to the arrest of eight suspects and the recovery of 4.5 kg of heroin, a large cache of firearms, and drug money.
Arsenal of Weapons and Cash Seized
During the operation, the police seized a significant quantity of weapons, including two Glock pistols (9mm), two pistols (30 bore), one pistol (32 bore), and one Zigana pistol (30 bore), along with 16 live cartridges. In addition to the firearms, the authorities recovered ₹1.5 lakh in drug money, highlighting the financial scale of the illegal operation.
Legal Action Initiated Under NDPS and Arms Act
Following the operation, an FIR was registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Arms Act at Police Station Gharinda in Amritsar. The Punjab Police have launched a comprehensive investigation to uncover the broader network and establish both backward and forward linkages in the case.
