In a significant move aimed at improving public service delivery, the Bhagwant Mann-led AAP government has issued new directives to the Transport Department of Punjab. The fresh orders mandate time-bound processing of all applications related to the department from April 25 onwards.

Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema reaffirmed the government’s commitment

As per the announcement shared by AAP Punjab’s official social media handle, any delay in resolving transport-related applications will lead to accountability. Officers failing to address public requests within the stipulated time will be held responsible for the lapse.

The initiative is also seen as a response to public complaints about delays and inefficiencies in the transport department, particularly in matters related to driving licenses, vehicle registrations, and permit renewals. By setting strict accountability measures and placing oversight in the hands of senior officials, the Mann government aims to reduce red tape and enhance citizens’ trust in government services.

Key Directives Include:

From April 25, all applications filed with the Transport Department must be disposed of within a fixed timeframe.

If any application is not addressed within the set period, the concerned officer will be held answerable.

Senior department officials will closely monitor the execution of these new service timelines.

Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema reaffirmed the government’s commitment to efficient governance, adding that these steps are part of CM Bhagwant Mann’s broader vision to ensure transparency and speed in public service sectors.

The move is expected to streamline the functioning of the transport system and reduce public grievances significantly.

With increasing demands for digital governance and citizen-friendly reforms, the Mann government’s latest decision is likely to set new standards of accountability across departments.
