Punjab News: Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab Government Disburses ₹29.33 Crore to 5,751 SC Girls Under Ashirwad Scheme

Punjab’s Minister for Social Justice, Empowerment, and Minority Affairs, Dr. Baljit Kaur, announced that under the Ashirwad Scheme, the Punjab government has released a total of ₹29.33 crore in the current financial year 2025-26 for 5,751 Scheduled Caste (SC) beneficiary daughters.

Dr. Baljit Kaur informed that applications were received through the Ashirwad portal from girls across 20 districts, including Bathinda, Barnala, Faridkot, Fazilka, Firozpur, Sri Fatehgarh Sahib, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Moga, Sri Muktsar Sahib, Patiala, Rupnagar, SAS Nagar (Mohali), SBS Nagar (Nawanshahr), Sangrur, and Malerkotla. The financial assistance has been provided to all eligible beneficiaries, with district-wise disbursement including Bathinda – 633, Barnala – 58, Faridkot – 67, Firozpur – 349, Sri Fatehgarh Sahib – 106, Gurdaspur – 265, Hoshiarpur – 70, Jalandhar – 1,087, Ludhiana – 839, Moga – 885, Sri Muktsar Sahib – 192, Patiala – 357, Rupnagar – 147, SAS Nagar – 65, SBS Nagar – 359, Sangrur – 210, and Malerkotla – 62 girls.

The Ashirwad Scheme provides ₹51,000 financial assistance for the marriage of daughters from economically weaker families. Dr. Baljit Kaur emphasized that this initiative reflects Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s commitment to public welfare.

Eligibility criteria for the scheme include permanent residence in Punjab

Eligibility criteria for the scheme include permanent residence in Punjab, family income below the poverty line, and belonging to Scheduled Caste, Backward Class, or Economically Weaker Sections. The total annual income of the family from all sources must be less than ₹32,790, and a maximum of two daughters per family can benefit. The assistance is transferred directly to the beneficiaries’ bank accounts via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
