Punjab News : CM Bhagwant Mann Rebukes Congress Chief for Allegedly Spreading Misinformation on MSP

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has criticized state Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring for allegedly spreading false information about the state advocate general’s stance on Minimum Support Price (MSP) for paddy. The Chief Minister called Warring a “chronic liar” and accused him of misleading the public with inaccurate statements.

CM Bhagwant Mann Rebukes Congress Chief for Allegedly Spreading Misinformation on MSP

Punjab Advocate General Gurminder Singh dismissed Warring’s statement as a lie and clarified that he suggested to the Supreme Court that the Centre should extend the minimum support price to other crops, providing farmers with the option to diversify.

The controversy arose after the Supreme Court directed Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan to immediately halt crop residue burning to address the rising pollution levels in Delhi-NCR.

Mann stated that Warring’s statements were misleading

CM Mann stated that Warring’s statements were misleading and aimed at scoring political points with the media. He emphasized that the state government’s affidavit filed in the Supreme Court sought to protect the interests of Punjab. The affidavit highlighted the need for incentives and support from the central government to encourage farmers to shift from paddy to other crops, ensuring viability and remunerative pricing.

Mann stated that a sustainable campaign is essential to change farmers’ behavior and manage crop residue effectively. He accused Warring of quoting affidavits based on his own whims, indicating the non-serious attitude of the Congress MLA.

In response, Warring clarified that he was referring to the AG’s statements before the Supreme Court, not the affidavit of the state government. Meanwhile, AG Gurminder Singh reiterated that he advocated for extending MSP to other crops, allowing farmers the flexibility to diversify. He also suggested providing crop residue management machinery to farmers at no cost, with financial support from the Punjab and Delhi governments and the Centre.
