Punjab News: Government effected major scholarship revisions for cadets of Punjab domicile

The new programme will base scholarship awards on the cadets' parents' yearly income.

Punjab News: Students at Sainik School may now breath a sigh of relief after significant scholarship changes were made by the state government for cadets from Punjab domicile of campus. Principal of the Sainik School in Kapurthala, Group Captain Madhu Sengar, claimed that the state government had complied with a long-standing request from the parents for the adjustment of the scholarship structure for the school’s cadets.

The new programme will base scholarship awards on the cadets’ parents’ yearly income. “The cadets, whose parents earn less than Rs 3 lakh annually, will be able to avail 100 pc fee waiver in the form of scholarship. Those falling within the income bracket of Rs 3 lakh-Rs 5 lakh will receive a substantial 75 per cent scholarship, while individuals whose parents have an annual income ranging from Rs 5 lakh to 7 lakh will be eligible for 50 per cent scholarship. Additionally, parents with an income between Rs 7 lakh and Rs 10 lakh will benefit from a 25 per cent reduction in tuition fees for their wards.”

Programme removes the financial obstacles:

The programme removes the financial obstacles that some parents previously faced while trying to enrol their worthy children in Sainik School.

The local board of administration, employees, parents, and cadets at Sainik School, Kapurthala, have expressed appreciation for this initiative. According to officials, they attended a meeting in Chandigarh last month where Harjot Singh Bains, the Punjab’s education minister, gave them an assurance that they would be able to provide the facilities and services necessary for the growth and development of the cadets as well as the institution, which has a long history.

Meanwhile, 21 cadets from Sainik School Kapurthala passed the NDA exam, according to the UPSC’s announcement of the results yesterday. These consist of 10 from the prior batch and 11 from the current batch.

New Announcement:

Students from families earning less than Rs. 3L will receive a 100% fee remission.
Families making between Rs 3L and Rs 5L per year would receive a 75% grant.
50% of the scholarship would be given to families earning between Rs. 5-7L annually.
Those with incomes between Rs 7 and 10 lakhs will pay 25% less in tuition.

Previously, only students whose a family’s was less than Rs. 96,000 annually were eligible for full scholarships.The highest income bracket to receive a scholarship was between Rs. 1.44 lakh and 1.8 lakh per year, or 50%.
