Punjab News: Injured Punjab Farmer Shifted to PGI Chandigarh from PGIMS Rohtak Amid Dispute

Punjab News: After Punjab Chief Secretary Anurag Verma’s appeal to his Haryana counterpart, an injured 27-year-old Punjab farmer, Pritpal Singh, who was receiving treatment at PGIMS Rohtak, has been transferred to PGI Chandigarh. The letter sought the handover of the injured farmer and any others undergoing treatment to Punjab authorities for cost-free medical care.

Key Points:

  1. Transfer to PGI Chandigarh: Responding to the appeal, the injured farmer, Pritpal Singh, was shifted from PGIMS Rohtak to PGI Chandigarh on Saturday.
  2. Chief Secretary’s Letter: Anurag Verma’s letter to Haryana Chief Secretary Sanjeev Kaushal urged the handover of Pritpal Singh and any other farmers in treatment to Punjab authorities.
  3. Farmer Group Demands: Farmer groups are demanding martyr status for Shubkaran Singh and a murder case against the Haryana police. A postmortem is also sought to determine the cause of death.
  4. Protest Disruption: The police reportedly disrupted a peaceful protest, damaging farmers’ vehicles, leading to heightened tensions.
  5. Support for SKM (N-M): Surjit Singh Phul is urging support for SKM (N-M), and Sarwan Singh Pandher has announced the next union meeting.

As the situation unfolds, the transfer of the injured farmer to PGI Chandigarh marks a development in the ongoing dispute and raises broader concerns about the handling of farmers’ issues during protests.
