In a significant breakthrough, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police has successfully dismantled a trans-border drug-smuggling network, apprehending two individuals—Sukhdev Singh and Avtar Singh—linked to Pakistan-based narcotics suppliers. The operation resulted in the recovery of 10 kg of heroin, highlighting the ongoing menace of drug trafficking in the region.
Past Connections and Criminal History
Preliminary investigations have unveiled the accused's connections with Pakistani smugglers, with their criminal activities dating back to 2015. During that year, two Pakistani nationals had crossed the border carrying 19.5 kg of heroin. The duo, along with Sukhdev Singh and Avtar Singh, was apprehended at the time with 2.5 kg of heroin, ₹65 lakh in drug money, a pistol, and a rifle.
Both accused were incarcerated following the 2015 arrest. While Sukhdev Singh was released last year, Avtar Singh was granted bail as recently as September.
