Punjab News: Punjab Assembly Takes First Step Toward Paperless Proceedings

Punjab News: The Punjab Assembly marked a significant milestone by conducting its first paperless session, providing all members with tablets to access documents. The shift to paperless proceedings was made possible by the National e-Vidhan Application (NeVA), a digital initiative aimed at modernizing legislative processes.

Speaker Announces Paperless Session:

The Speaker of the Punjab Assembly officially announced the adoption of paperless proceedings using NeVA. This transition aligns with the Assembly’s vision to reduce paper usage and ultimately make the operations entirely paperless. He expressed pride in this achievement, emphasizing the positive impact on the environment and efficiency.

No More Hard Copies:

With the adoption of paperless proceedings, hard copies of documents will no longer be circulated in the Assembly. All relevant materials, including legislative documents and supporting information, will be electronically presented to members and staff. This shift to electronic formats is expected to streamline processes and enhance accessibility.

Initial Transition Challenges:

While members initially faced challenges adapting to the new technology, a dedicated team of IT professionals was on hand to provide assistance during the session. This support ensures a smooth transition to paperless proceedings.

Digital Wing and Training:

The Assembly had previously organized a two-day training session on NeVA and established a digital wing. This digital wing comprises various elements, including an IT cell, NIC cell, modern training room (NeVA Seva Kendra), hi-tech control room, and network control room. These efforts aim to make the functioning of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha more technologically advanced and aligned with modern digital practices.

This significant step toward paperless proceedings reflects the Assembly’s commitment to embracing digital solutions for more efficient and eco-friendly legislative processes.
