Punjab News: In a major breakthrough, the Punjab Police, through an intelligence-based operation, has dismantled a cross-border smuggling module in Amritsar. The Amritsar Rural Police successfully apprehended two suspects involved in smuggling activities and recovered four Glock-26 pistols, according to a tweet from the Director General of Police (DGP), Punjab.
Links to Pakistan-Based Smugglers
The suspects were found to be in contact with a Pakistan-based smuggler who has been actively pushing large consignments of weapons and drugs into Indian territory. The smuggler has been using drones and other covert methods to transport arms and drugs across the border, increasing concerns over regional security.
Investigation in Progress
According to the DGP’s tweet, an investigation is underway to trace the full network behind the smuggling ring. Authorities are working to establish both backward and forward linkages, aiming to dismantle the entire smuggling operation. This marks another significant step in Punjab Police’s ongoing efforts to curb cross-border illegal activities, especially arms and drug trafficking. Further developments are anticipated as the investigation progresses.
