Punjab News: In response to the conduct and misbehavior of a public information officer (PIO), deemed unfit for the role, the Punjab State Information Commission (PSIC) has recommended disciplinary action against the official. The PSIC has also barred the said official from appearing before the commission. The directive includes a call for compliance from the deputy commissioner, Mohali, and the sub-divisional magistrate, Kharar, with a requirement to submit an action taken report.

The decision came during the hearing of an appeal filed by a Mohali resident, who sought information under the Right to Information (RTI) Act from the SDM, Kharar. The appellant expressed dissatisfaction with the information provided, leading to the PSIC’s intervention.
The PSIC bench, led by Amrit Partap Singh Sekhon, directed the PIO office of tehsildar, Kharar, to submit a comprehensive point-wise reply in affidavit form to address the queries raised through the RTI request. This move aims to rectify the unsatisfactory status reported by the senior assistant of the office of tehsildar, Kharar, during oral statements.
