Key Achievements in Punjab’s Fisheries Sector

Punjab’s fisheries industry has made remarkable progress, with the government implementing several initiatives to boost productivity and farmer participation:

✅ Over 14 crore high-quality fish seedlings are produced annually to ensure better yield.

✅ ₹27 crore financial aid has been provided to 500+ beneficiaries for fisheries projects.

✅ The state has achieved 1.81 lakh tonnes of fish production from ponds and natural water bodies.

✅ Free training and technical support are being offered to fish and shrimp farmers to promote sustainable practices.

✅ Punjab is adopting advanced techniques like Recirculatory Aquaculture System (RAS) and Biofloc Technology, which enhance productivity while ensuring environmental sustainability.

✅ A new Fish Seed Farm has been established in Fazilka, while a retail fish market has been set up in Patiala to improve fish marketing and distribution.

✅ Recognizing Punjab’s contribution to the fisheries sector, six farmers were honored on the 76th Republic Day for their excellence in fish farming.
