The ropeway is expected to resume operations from October 1 according to its scheduled operating programme.
Tehri: Surkanda Devi Ropeway Closed for Repair Work
According to information provided by ropeway coordinator Naresh Bijalwan, repair work will be carried out between September 21 and September 30. The ropeway service will remain completely suspended throughout this period.
The Surkanda Devi ropeway connects Kaddukhal with the Surkanda Devi Temple and provides an alternative to the uphill route for pilgrims and tourists visiting the shrine.
Devotees Will Have to Walk 1.5 Km to Temple
With the ropeway unavailable, devotees planning to visit the temple between September 21 and September 30 will have to cover approximately 1.5 kilometres on foot from Kaddukhal to Surkanda Devi.
Visitors have therefore been advised to take the temporary change in transport arrangements into account while planning their temple visit during the 10-day closure period.
Ropeway Services to Resume From October 1
The repair period is scheduled to end on September 30, after which the ropeway will resume operations from October 1, 2026, as per the predetermined schedule.
The temporary closure is expected to affect pilgrims and tourists who rely on the ropeway for easier access to the hilltop temple, while the walking route will remain the alternative during the maintenance period.
