CM Bhagwant Mann: Punjab’s aggressive approach towards busting drug traffickers has yielded yet another big success while confirming the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s position of having zero tolerance towards the illegal drug trade. Punjab Police was able to seize 12 kgs of suspected heroin during an anti-drug operation conducted in Amritsar and the seizure represents a severe blow to the cross-border drug trafficking networks that operate in Punjab.
Major Anti-Drug Operation in Amritsar
Punjab Police’s specialized Anti-Narcotics Team carried out this operation based on accurate intelligence received. After gathering this information, the specialized team conducted a raid on the Amritsar area where they seized a large quantity of suspected heroin. It has been reported that this drug seizure is currently being processed for forensic analysis. However, initial reports of the initial analysis indicate that the heroin seized from the suspects is of high purity.
This operation is one of the major drug seizures in the past week and demonstrates the effectiveness of intelligence-gathering and targeting drug dealers in the border district which has historically been vulnerable to drug smuggling due to its location near the border with Pakistan.
CM Bhagwant Mann’s Strong Stand Against Drugs
The Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has continued to highlight that his Government is committed to the elimination of drugs in Punjab. The Chief Minister has directed law enforcement agencies to keep a high-profile look-out for drug traffickers, dealers, and syndicates and take decisive action against them.
In response to the recent drug seizure, senior police officials have reinforced that the Punjab Government is providing the police with all necessary support, including resources, technology, and the authority, to eradicate the drugs at the source.
Ongoing Crackdown and Future Action
The Punjab Police is currently conducting an investigation to locate where the heroin originated and determine who the individuals and networks are that are associated with it. The authorities believe that this alcohol shipment forms a larger part of the supply chain that will be used to distribute drugs throughout Punjab, and perhaps further afield. In addition, the Punjab Government’s strategy to combat drug abuse is to combine both enforcement measures with rehabilitation and prevention programs to protect young people from becoming addicted.
