In a social media post, Gandhi referred to Gulzar Singh, a member of the Dalit community who, according to Gandhi, had seen his son become a victim of drug abuse. Gandhi alleged that Singh had approached the state Finance Minister with questions about the issue.

Responding to Gandhi, AAP leader Anurag Dhanda rejected the allegations and accused Congress leaders of attempting to politicise the matter. Dhanda claimed that Congress leaders who visited the victim’s village were driven away by local residents.

Dhanda further said that Punjab Police had already arrested all the accused based on the family’s identification. He also accused previous Akali Dal, BJP and Congress governments of being responsible for the spread of drugs in Punjab.

The AAP leader asserted that the Bhagwant Mann-led government would not spare drug traffickers and maintained that strict action was being taken against those involved in the illegal drug trade.

The exchange comes amid a wider political confrontation in Punjab over drug abuse, law enforcement and the government’s handling of complaints raised by affected families.
