Two jail inmates among four held, 5.31 lakh pharma opioids seized in Punjab

The Fatehgarh Sahib police busted the inter-state pharmaceutical drug cartel running from the jail and arrested four persons, including two jail inmates and a supplier, as part of the drive against drugs on the instructions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

The police have recovered 5.31 lakh pharma opioids from the possession of the accused. The arrested accused have been identified as Sunny Kumar and Ranjit Singh alias Rinku. Both the accused are residents of Ludhiana. Whereas Ishaan Gupta and Ravi Kumar were brought from Central Jail Ludhiana on a production warrant.

Giving information in the case, Deputy Inspector General of Police, DIG Ropar Range Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that on January 23, 2023, the Fatehgarh police had recovered 19,590 intoxicant pills from Sunny Kumar’s possession by overpowering him during the special blockade.

SSP Fatehgarh Sahib Dr Ravjot Garewal said that during interrogation, the accused disclosed that he was selling drugs to the customers on the instructions of Ishaan Gupta and Ravi Kumar.
Used to supply, who used to contact him through mobile phone from Central Jail Ludhiana.

An FIR has been registered in Ludhiana in the matter


He further said that after the disclosure made by the accused, the police brought both the accused on production warrant. The police also recovered a Samsung Guru mobile phone from them, which they were using in jail.The DIG said that both the accused have disclosed that they had supplied pharma drugs to Sunny through Ranjit Rinku and he was also arrested by the police on Saturday.

He further informed that on the basis of information given by the accused Ranjit Rinku, the police teams recovered 3.60 lakh tablets of Lomotil and 1.51 lakh tablets of Tramadol from the locations mentioned by him in Ludhiana.SSP Fatehgarh Sahib informed that they have obtained police remand of accused Ranjit Rinku and further interrogation is on to trace the main supplier. More seizures are expected in this case.
