CM Bhagwant Mann: The Punjab Police, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, continued its aggressive ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ campaign on its 180th day, conducting widespread targeted raids across the state in coordination with the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF). The operation focuses on dismantling gangster networks by hitting their associates and logistical support at pre-mapped locations.

Launched on January 20, 2026, by Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav

At the directions of CM Mann, the campaign aims to make Punjab gangster-free. It targets not only active criminals but also their enablers, including those linked to foreign-based gangsters. Police teams have carried out intelligence-driven operations in districts, setting up nakas, searching suspicious individuals, and verifying information to disrupt organised crime ecosystems.

By mid-2026, the drive has yielded impressive results

In the first five months alone, authorities conducted over 93,000 raids, arresting more than 38,000 individuals, recovering hundreds of weapons including firearms, cartridges, magazines, and sharp-edged arms. Proclaimed offenders have been systematically apprehended, with preventive actions taken against thousands more. Cumulative arrests surpassed 47,000 by Day 173, reflecting sustained momentum.

On Day 180, Punjab Police reiterated its commitment through statewide actions

As highlighted in their official update. Operations include thorough checks at public places like bus stations and strategic locations. Officials emphasise community involvement, urging citizens to share tips anonymously via the dedicated Anti-Gangster Helpline 93946-93946. Informants receive confidentiality and potential rewards.

CM Mann has consistently directed senior officials to intensify these efforts

CM Bhagwant Mann: Alongside the parallel ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ anti-drug campaign. The government links long-term success to youth employment, education, and rehabilitation programs to prevent recruitment into crime. Police reforms, including new recruitments, bolster operational capacity.

This relentless crackdown has disrupted extortion rackets, arms supply, and cross-border influences, improving public safety perceptions. Challenges remain, including foreign handlers and drug-gangster overlaps, but officials vow continued vigour. Punjab Police’s proactive stance signals a broader push for a secure, crime-free state under the AAP government.
