In a major strike against cross-border drug trafficking, Punjab Police, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, has exposed a sophisticated narco-hawala network operating in Ferozepur district. Acting on precise intelligence, the police seized 15 kilograms of heroin and arrested a key member of the smuggling syndicate, identified as Ramesh Kumar alias Mechi.

An FIR under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered, and investigations are in full swing to uncover the forward and backward linkages of the syndicate. A special focus is being placed on tracking the hawala operatives who managed the cartel’s monetary flow.
The Director General of Police, Punjab, termed the operation a critical breakthrough in the state’s ongoing war against narcotics, particularly in vulnerable border districts.
“This is a clear message to all drug syndicates—Punjab Police will not relent. We are fully committed to dismantling their networks, blocking financial lifelines, and ensuring a drug-free Punjab,” the DGP said.
Punjab Police has stepped up its counter-narcotics efforts in recent months, deploying intelligence-backed operations and inter-agency coordination to curb smuggling across the Indo-Pak border. These efforts reflect the Mann-led government’s firm resolve to safeguard the youth of Punjab from drug abuse and destroy the networks fuelling it.
