Vacate Land Or Face Action says Punjab Chief Minister to Illegal Occupants

Bhagwant Mann, the chief minister of Punjab, ordered squatters to leave public property by May 31 or face consequences.

Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, the minister in charge of Punjab’s panchayats and rural development, gave officials until June 10 to remove encroachments from government-owned land.

Mann bemoaned that past governments in the state had broken rules and permitted “affluent people” to trespass on public property, calling it “unwarranted and undesirable”.

He stated that a campaign to prevent encroachment will start on June 1 and that the state administration is committed to releasing land from squatters.

According to a formal statement, Mann stated that the state government’s success in clearing encroachers from more than 9,000 acres of public land to date is a source of great joy and pride.

He declared that the momentum would be maintained and that “every inch” of government property that was being illegally occupied would be freed.

He claimed that some persons had expressed interest in paying for the land they currently owned and added that the state government had developed a plan for doing so.

The minister stated that a price will be set for the land in question, which may be in accordance with collector rates or market rates, and that the concerned deputy commissioners are permitted to make a judgement in this regard.

By June 10, the state government hopes to restore 6,000 acres of land subject to unlawful encroachment. According to him, 9,030 acres of land, with an estimated market worth of $2,709 crore, were freed from encroachment last year.

189 acres of land were voluntarily given up by encroachers in the last five days. In response to the chief minister’s appeal, he stated that 3,396 acres of land were also given up by the locals last year.

He also urged those who were illegally on government property to leave so that money could be raised for Punjab’s development. He declared that no legal action would be taken against anyone who left government property by May 31.
