Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot apologies amid old budget row

Soon after Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot presented the state budget, BJP leaders protested in the assembly on Friday and accused Gehlot of reading the old budget. The BJP said that the budget was technically leaked as state government officials rushed to collect a copy of the budget. BJP MLA from Chhabra, Pratap Singh Singhvi demanded the Chief Minister to bring a new budget and said that no one else brings the copy of the budget except the Chief Minister, but here it has passed through four-five hands.

The Chief Minister refuted the allegations as soon as the House resumed proceedings, saying the budget was not leaked and that there was an extra page from last year’s budget, which was kept in the new papers for reference. Before presenting the budget again, Gehlot said, “I am sorry, whatever happened happened by mistake.” He said, “You (Opposition) can tell yourself what is the difference between what is written in my hand in the budget and the copy given to the members of the House. If by mistake a page has been added to my budget copy, then how did the matter of budget leak come about?”

In a tweet, Gehlot said, “The BJP just wants to show that it is against the development and progress of Rajasthan. Their fabricated allegation that the budget was leaked shows that they will not leave the budget too with their petty politics.’

In a press conference, Gehlot reiterated that the allegations of budget leakage are false. He said, “There was no need to create a ruckus after I said sorry.”

Instead of the budget 2023-24, Gehlot read parts of the previous budget regarding urban employment and agriculture budget. As soon as he made the first two announcements in the 2022-23 budget, the opposition came to the Well.
