Some individuals associated with the case were also covered under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The ED had previously carried out similar raids in September in connection with this case.

The money laundering probe is based on an FIR from the Rajasthan anti-corruption bureau (ACB) that accused individuals and firms of bribing public servants to secure tenders and approvals related to the Jal Jeevan Mission.

The mission, launched by the central government, aims to provide safe and adequate drinking water through household tap connections, and it was implemented by the state Public Health Engineering Department in Rajasthan. The state is scheduled to hold Assembly elections on November 25.
