Rajasthan News: PM Modi’s HPCL Barmer Refinery Inauguration Promises 1 Lakh Plus Job Opportunities! Would Local Youth Hiring Boost State’s Economy?

Rajasthan News: Rajasthan Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore has announced that the Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) Barmer refinery that was stalled during the administration of the Congress Government would be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 21.

The 9 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA) project would help the state become one of India’s largest integrated refinery and petrochemical complexes. PM Modi would inaugurate the refinery that was previously under Barmer but now under the newly-created Balotra district.

Rajasthan News-What’s Special?

The Barmer refinery is likely to start operations soon and is likely to move towards optimal capacity in a calibrated way.

The Greenfield Refinery-cum-Petrochemical Complex at has been set up by HPCL Rajasthan Refinery Ltd (HRRL). It is a joint venture between Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited and the Government of Rajasthan, with a stake of 74 percent and 26 percent, respectively.

Previously, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma had commented that PM Modi would inaugurate the Pachpadra Refinery. In a post on X, the Rajasthan CM said the refinery would act as a lifetime to transform the state’s growing economy. CM Sharma posted that the refinery would revolutionize the Marwar region’s economy and that of the entire state as well.

Employment Opportunities

The HPCL Barmer refinery is likely to create lakhs of employment opportunities at the construction phase where thousands of workers would be employed directly. It is also expected to create thousands of high-skilled jobs in refinery operations.

Moreover, thousands of jobs – both direct and indirect – would get created in different sectors such as maintenance, services, transport and catering, turning Barmer into an industrial employment hub over time.

This would help in the development of a powerful Western Rajasthan’s industrial ecosystem that would help attract new investments and accelerate regional economic growth in India’s largest state in size.
