Rajasthan News: Grain ATMs For Ration Distribution Announced! Would Lives Of More Than 43 Million Hanging In Balance Change Now?

Rajasthan News: The state of Rajasthan is all set to introduce automated grain Automated teller machines (ATMs) for the distribution of ration to poor, financially deprived and those below poverty line. The move is seen by many in the political circles as an excellent development that would improve delivery to more than 4.3 million beneficiaries under the food security scheme of Rajasthan.

The grain ATM rollout with get started with pilot installations in Bikaner, Bharatpur and Jaipur. Beneficiaries would collect their entitled quota of pulses, rice and wheat in a manner similar to cash withdrawals from a bank’s ATM.

The machine would allow individuals to receive supplies of wheat, sugar or rice 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days a year. The grain ATMs would have the facility of biometric (fingerprint or iris) scan. Interested individuals would be required to enter their ration card number and put their thumb impression. Once the verification has been successfully completed, the allotted quantity of grains would fall into the bag kept under the grain ATM machine.

One of the biggest advantages of Grain ATMs in India is that they would help the poor and needy access rationed food anytime anywhere. Moreover, it would help them get spared by long queues at traditional ration shops. Also, they don’t have to wait for countless days in wait of the ration supplies to reach the traditional ration shops.

Rajasthan Food Secretary Ambrish Kumar remarked the grain ATMs in Rajasthan would soon be started after a release date has been received by the Government of India. The technology that is presently being developed under the United Nations’ World Food Program is completely indigenous.

Food and civil Supplies minister Sumit Godara that the grain ATM system would be expanded gradually throughout the state after the pilot phase.
