The film Udaipur Files, based on the 2022 murder of tailor Kanhaiya Lal in Rajasthan’s Udaipur, released in cinemas on Friday, August 8. Directed by producer Amit Jani, the movie had faced multiple hurdles before its release, leaving the victim’s family disheartened. However, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) recently granted approval, clearing the way for its screening.
‘Udaipur Files’ Film on Kanhaiya Lal’s Murder Released in Theatres Amid Tight Security
In view of the sensitive nature of the subject, security arrangements have been tightened in theatres across the state. In Udaipur, Kanhaiya Lal’s two sons arrived at a cinema hall to watch the film, carrying a photograph of their late father. Inside the theatre, his picture was placed on an empty seat and garlanded by the sons in an emotional tribute.
The entire country should know this story
Speaking to the media ahead of the release, Kanhaiya Lal’s elder son Yash said, “This film shows our family’s pain and how my father was killed. The entire country should know this story. We have won the battle we were fighting. This movie is about the fight against terrorism, not against any religion.”
However, Yash also expressed deep concern over the delay in justice. “My father’s case is still the same as it was three years ago. The killers have not yet been punished. We do not know how long it will take for us to get justice,” he said.
The release of Udaipur Files has revived public discussion on the brutal killing, which had shocked the nation. For Kanhaiya Lal’s family, the film serves both as a memorial and as a call for a continued fight against extremist violence.
