Rajasthan news shows a major infrastructural setback on the Bagholi-Jahaj road in Jhunjhunu district, where the newly built road was washed away by the overflowing Katli River even before its official inauguration, leaving locals stunned.
As monsoon devastation continues in Himachal Pradesh, a fresh video from Rajasthan is also drawing attention. The latest Rajasthan news reports that the Udaipurwati area experienced sudden, heavy rainfall, which severely damaged the Rs 12.31 crore highway project midway through its construction.
Road Washed Away Before Inauguration
The newly constructed state highway in the Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan got washed away before its inauguration. One viral clip shows that the freshly paved road gets a huge hole in the middle. The overflowing water from the nearby Katli River affects the road, slowly washing away from the core.
This river passes through the Baghuli area of the Udaipurwati region of the district. The sudden strong water levels of the river were unexpected by the residents. The monsoon has hit Rajasthan differently this year, causing damage to the highway due to continuous heavy rainfall since Sunday, July 6.
According to the weather office, the area received an unexpected 86 mm of rainfall. This led to the river currents reaching dangerous levels, affecting the highway before the inauguration.
People Question Road Quality Standards
The highway was constructed just 6 months ago with the aim of improving connectivity between Baghuli and the Jahaj villages of Rajasthan. This road will connect these areas with the National Highway 52, but the downpour of the Katli River creates a massive setback to this dream.
As the Rajasthan news of heavy rain gets circulated on the internet, people can’t help but question the quality of the road. People are questioning the quality standards, even the qualifications of the engineers. They say, “Engineer got degree without any exams . Made road in path of river without any tunnel or bridge”.
People are blaming the poor construction planning, as building roads on the coast of a river needs a more sturdy base. They say, “Chor Neta, Babu and Contractor ignored the natural flood line, blocking it with mud and rubble. Constructing a drain/bridge to accommodate the flood line would have cost more and reduced the bribe percentage”.
People are taunting the role of corrupt politicians with comments like, “Bohot galat hua, Udghatan me 100-200 photo ho jati to sadak ke paise nikal jate, Uske baad kuch bhi hota sadak ka”. Others say that nobody can change the course of nature, saying, “Nature found its path; nature no mercy”.
Contractor Under Scrutiny After Collapse
The Devi Sahay and Company executed this project under the oversight of Engineer Tarachand Saini. Local people are demanding an enquiry into the unexpected damage to the new road. Who should be accountable for this outcome —the contractor, the supervising officials, or the engineers — is sti3333ll a question. PWD will inspect the affected area and recommend corrective measures.
This incident shows the poor construction of the highways in most areas of the country. Monsoon and road damage have become so common that it does not raise our concern anymore. However, this road damage before the inauguration is making everyone urge for strict scrutiny.
