What Did Revanth Reddy Say?
Responding to queries about what will happen if farmers face drought-like situations and there is no irrigation water available, the Chief Minister made some harsh statements against the BRS leaders, including KTR and T. Harish Rao. Among other things, Revanth Reddy commented that if the blood of the BRS leaders were spilled on farm land, crops would grow.
Why Is the Row Linked to the Kaleshwaram Project?
The controversy comes amid an ongoing dispute over the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project. The BRS has been urging the Congress government to release irrigation water from the Kannepalli pump house, claiming there is enough water available for farmers despite the dry spell. The state government, however, has said it will act only in line with the recommendations of the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA), which has advised against storing water in the project’s barrages until safety concerns are addressed.
BRS Hits Back
The BRS strongly condemned the Chief Minister’s remarks, saying the focus should be on providing water to farmers rather than making political statements. Former Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao demanded an immediate and unconditional apology from Revanth Reddy.
KTR Responds
Revanth Reddy: Senior BRS leader K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) also reacted strongly to the controversy. He said his party was willing to make any sacrifice for farmers but urged the government to ensure water reached agricultural fields. Referring to the Chief Minister’s remarks, KTR accused the Congress government of ignoring farmers’ real concerns while escalating political tensions.
