Uttarakhand News: Badrinath Highway Blocked by Falling Debris Amidst Intense Rainfall, Rescue Underway

Uttarakhand News: On Friday, officials reported that the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) successfully rescued an injured individual who was trapped on the Badrinath highway. The person had become stuck due to debris falling in the Chamoli district.

SDRF continues rescue operation

As per the SDRF, late on Thursday night, the Kotwali in Joshimath received information about an injured person who was trapped due to debris falling in the Pagalnala area of Chamoli district. Without delay, an SDRF team arrived at the location and conducted a rescue mission, working under challenging conditions during the dark nighttime.

Afterwards, the injured person was successfully rescued and transported to safety using a stretcher. An SDRF official stated that the person was then taken to the hospital for necessary medical treatment. The official stated, “The rescued individual had got trapped on the Badrinath highway while he was on a trek. He was injured while returning from the trek and was therefore unable to cross the obstructed road.”

During Tuesday’s continuous rainfall in certain areas of Uttarakhand, a section of the Rishikesh-Badrinath National Highway-58 experienced damage near Purusadi in Chamoli district. The district administration stated that approximately 250 meters of the highway in the Purusadi region sustained damage, leading to the suspension of traffic movement. Given the red alert issued for intense rainfall in Uttarakhand, district magistrates have been advised to implement precautionary measures within their respective districts.
