8 central technical institutions submits reports on Joshimath Sinking

All the eight technical institutes studying the landslide in Joshimath have submitted their preliminary reports to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). What is in these reports has not been disclosed. The government says that after the analysis, the NDMA will soon submit its report to the State Disaster Management Authority (USDMA). It will take time for the final report of technical institutions to come.

Secretary Disaster Management Dr. while giving daily briefing on Joshimath at the media center located at State Secretariat on Wednesday. Ranjit Sinha said that the Central Building Research Institute (CBRI) was made the nodal agency in this matter. CBRI has sent these to NDMA after examining the reports of all the institutes.

Dr. Sinha told that now these reports will be analyzed by NDMA. Only after this these reports will be sent to USDMA. He expressed ignorance about what is in the report. He said that nothing can be said about this now.

Report submitted after 23 days, results not known


After about 23 days have passed in the midst of fresh landslides in Joshimath, the technical scientific institutions have submitted the report. But the hands of the government are also empty regarding what is there in these reports. From this point of view, the government is still in a state of indecision regarding taking any policy decision regarding Joshimath.

Which agency was doing what work, know

  1. Central Building Research Institute (CBRI): Investigation of cracked buildings as well as their demolition, construction of pre-fabricated model buildings for temporary rehabilitation.
  2. Wadia: Along with seismology, geophysical research, the institute has to submit its final report in two months.
  3. IIT Roorkee: Geotechnical survey is being done in Joshimath by IIT Roorkee. In this study, the scientists of the institute will find out what is the condition of soil and stones in the geology of Joshimath. What is its load capacity?
  4. NGRI, Hyderabad: Carrying out the work of Geophysical and Geotechnical survey. Through this, a geological map of 30 to 50 meters depth will be prepared in Joshimath. It has to submit its final report to the government in three weeks.
  5. National Institute of Hydrology (NIH): Hydrological survey is being conducted in Joshimath. The team of the institute will prepare a complete map of water flowing on the surface and underground on a land here.
  6. Geological Survey of India (GSI): Land survey of the affected area in Joshimath and geological study of the land selected for rehabilitation is being done.
  7. Central Ground Water Board (CGWB): To find out the spring water under the ground and the direction and condition of its flow.
  8. Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS): Constantly monitoring the ground movement of Joshimath. The institute will submit the final report to the government in three months.
