Delhi Dehradun Expressway: Brunch In National Capital, Lunch In The Hills! Trial Run On February 28 After Inauguration By PM Modi?

Delhi Dehradun Expressway: The Delhi Dehradun Expressway would boost regional connectivity across the states of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Delhi Dehradun Expressway: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to inaugurate the much-awaited Delhi-Dehradun Expressway on February 28, 2026. Once operational, the expressway would cut down the distance between the national capital and Doon Valley to just 2.5 hours from the existing 7-8 hours.

The 210 kilometre expressway, also referred to as the Delhi-Saharanpur-Dehradun Economic Corridor, is designed as a six-lane highway. The Delhi-Dehradun Expressway would start from Delhi’s Akshardham and passes via Baghapat, Baraut, Meerut, Shamli, Muzzafarnagar and Saharanpur before ending at Dehradun.

Delhi Dehradun Expressway Insights

For the last three months, the expressway from Akshardham to Baghpat has been opened for trials. Now, preparations are going on to open the remaining stretch from Baghpat to Saharanpur by February 28 for trials.

Presently, signboards are getting installed at district border, cities and villages along with white stripe marketing as well as minor works.

Key Features

A flagship project under Bharatmala Pariyojana, the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway boasts of cutting-edge design for safety, speed and sustainability. It includes 113 underpasses, 16 entry and exit points, 29 kilometres of elevated sections and 62 bus shelters, supporting speeds up to 100 kilometres per hour.

The standout of the expressway is the 12-km long elevated wildlife corridor over Rajaji National Park that features 2 elephant passages and 6 animal underpasses to protect biodiversity. It also features EV-reserved parking with kiosks, advanced traffic monitoring, noise barriers, ATMs and PUC centres.

The Delhi Dehradun Expressway would boost regional connectivity across the states of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. It would allow commuters to gain access to direct, high-speed routes. The expressway is also likely to cut down logistics costs while offering seamless access to pilgrimage sites such as Haridwar and hill stations.

The expressway would also ensure thousands of direct and indirect jobs, including employment as toll staff, service hubs and maintenance crews. It is also likely to open markets for small and medium-sized enterprises.
