Pushkar Singh Dhami, the chief minister of Uttarakhand, and Amit Shah, the minister of the union's interior, met in New Delhi late on Monday night to discuss the UCC amidst a heated discussion over the law's intentions. He also had a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during which the UCC and other topics were discussed.

The BJP has made it obvious that it will be active on its basic, ideological themes in the lead-up to next year's Lok Sabha elections as a result of PM Modi lately increasing the pitch on the UCC.

The UCC was one of the BJP's major election campaign pledges, along with repealing Article 370 and constructing a Ram temple at Ayodhya.

Who all were in meeting?

According to sources, the Delhi meeting included Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai, Chair of the Uttarakhand UCC Drafting Committee.

On Sunday, Mr. Dhami stated that the draught will shortly be submitted by the UCC expert team looking into the matter.

"As per the promise made to the state's people, today on June 30, the committee formed to prepare the draft of the Uniform Civil Code has completed its work. Soon Uniform Civil Code will be implemented in Devbhoomi Uttarakhand. Jai Hind, Jai Uttarakhand!" he tweeted earlier.

The UCC argues for the creation of a single law for India that would apply to all religious communities with regards to issues like adoption, inheritance, divorce, and marriage.

After gathering opinions, the law panel is expected to bring its recommendations soon. This occurred eight months after the Centre informed the Supreme Court that the State was required by the Constitution to establish a UCC for its inhabitants since it was detrimental to national unity for people of various religions and denominations to follow various property and marriage laws.

Additionally, the BJP-led governments in Assam and Madhya Pradesh have announced the creation of committees. Although the Goa Civil Code is seen as a type of uniform civil code and has been in effect since Portuguese times, the reality is that it is rather complicated. Gujarat has also stated that it is moving towards implementing the UCC.

Other Opposition parties, including the DMK, JD(U), RJD, the Left, and the Trinamool Congress, have been more vocal in criticising the Centre for it, despite the Congress' claim that a UCC is "neither necessary nor desirable at this stage."
