In a significant technological leap, the Uttarakhand government has launched its own mobile network service in Rudraprayag, ensuring uninterrupted connectivity for locals and pilgrims participating in the ongoing Char Dham Yatra. As part of this initiative, free WiFi services will be provided to devotees at various key locations along the pilgrimage route.

Uttarakhand Establishes Own Mobile Network in Rudraprayag

The service has been rolled out in collaboration with the Information Technology Development Agency (ITDA) and local administration. This development aims to enhance communication access in remote and hilly regions, especially during the high footfall season of the yatra.

According to officials, this dedicated state-run mobile network will support both emergency services and routine communication, ensuring pilgrims can stay in touch with family members and receive real-time updates on weather and travel conditions.

Boost to Pilgrimage Infrastructure

The Char Dham Yatra, which includes Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri, witnesses lakhs of devotees every year. With poor mobile connectivity being a persistent concern in high-altitude regions, this move is seen as a landmark step toward digital inclusion and safety.

“Free WiFi at prominent halting points, temple areas, and base camps will help devotees stay connected. We’re also ensuring 24/7 tech support and monitoring for uninterrupted services,” said an ITDA official.

Emergency Preparedness Strengthened

The government has also deployed satellite-based monitoring systems, digital helpdesks, and drone surveillance in vulnerable zones. This will not only assist in crowd management but also play a critical role in disaster preparedness and swift rescue operations, if needed.

Next Steps

Authorities plan to expand this model across other yatra routes and tourist circuits in Uttarakhand. The government is also considering adding QR-code-based location sharing features and multi-language audio guides as part of its digital pilgrimage package.
