Forest fires, particularly in prominent areas like Nainital, also spread to neighboring regions such as Almora and Pithoragarh, inflicting damage on more than 30 acres of forests.

To combat the blaze in Nainital, over 40 personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) were deployed on Sunday.

Uttarakhand has witnessed a series of forest fires this year

This recent outbreak is not an isolated incident, as Uttarakhand has witnessed a series of forest fires this year. According to the Forest Survey of India, since 21 April alone, the state has reported 202 forest fires. Since November, a staggering 606 incidents have been recorded, leading to the destruction of 242.3 hectares in the Garhwal region, 429.4 hectares in Kumaon, and over 64 hectares in administrative wildlife regions.

Authorities have attributed the majority of these fires to human activities, labeling them as “man-made.” Although high temperatures, dry forests, and lightning strikes may also contribute, officials highlight man-made factors such as cigarette ashes, garbage burning, and electrical sparks as significant causes of the fires.
