Uttarakhand News: During a recent meeting between the JoshiMath Rescue Committee and government officials at the state level, consensus was reached on several points regarding the rehabilitation and resettlement of those affected by the disaster. The committee’s delegation, led by Badrinath MLA Rajendra Bhandari, met with the Chief Secretary and Disaster Management Secretary in Dehradun to discuss pertinent issues.
Progress in Talks Between JoshiMath Rescue Committee and Government Officials on Rehabilitation and Resettlement
The committee representatives disclosed that agreements were made on certain issues during the meeting. Suggestions were put forward regarding the relocation of affected individuals around JoshiMath. The Chief Secretary and Disaster Management Secretary assured swift action on these suggestions. However, consensus on some points is still pending.
During the discussion, committee members including Atul Sati, Chairman Shailendra Panwar, Sanjay Uniyal, Nain Singh Bhandari, Harish Bhandari, Jaydeep Mehta, and others were present.
Points of Consensus:
- Reconsideration of Half-baked Alternatives Papers and Inclusion of Additional Options.
- Provision of Land for Individuals who Own Buildings but Lack Land in their Name.
- Removal of Home Stay from Commercial Category with Certain Conditions.
- Immediate Compensation for Affected Buildings of Rajiv and PM Housing.
Additionally, arrangements will be made for individuals engaged in businesses such as hotels and shops to be provided with resettlement options. Payment for safe agricultural land will be facilitated for those interested, while those wishing to retain ownership will be granted permission to do so.
